One of the oldest burial grounds in the state of Vermont is the Bennington Centre Cemetery. The attached Old First Church was established in 1762. That same year, the first headstone was placed.

Today, the Bennington Centre Cemetery Association maintains the grounds. Signs have been placed to identify not only notable people buried in the cemetery but also to showcase the work of the stone carvers. Most famous among the headstones is the grave of author Robert Frost.

Revolutionary War Soldiers who fought and died at the Battle of Bennington in August 1777 are also buried in the cemetery. There is a total of 75 soldiers buried on the grounds. Carver Zerubbabel Collins is responsible for about 40 of the headstones on the grounds, and several are attributed to his apprentice Benjamin Dyer.
