The historic factory building of the Boyertown Auto Body Works, which operated from 1872 to 1990 and retains some of the original factory’s machines and fittings, now houses this fascinating museum.

Inside are some of the earliest horse-drawn carriages in the nation, to person-powered “pennyfarthing” bicycles (calling all fans of “The Prisoner”!), to gas-powered and electric vehicles of all years, shapes, sizes, number of wheels, civilian, government and military.  Also featuring specialized, iconic vehicles like a fully outfitted 1958 Mister Softee Ice Cream Truck, a Bookmobile, a 1953 “atomic” rescue vehicle, and the earliest “Refrigerated!” grocery delivery trucks, this museum has every possible vehicle you could ever imagine, and some that you probably can’t!  Chitty Chitty Bang Bang may well be lurking somewhere in the collection.

The museum also specializes in Pennsylvania-built cars like the “Pullman”, which was built for only 10 years in the early 1900s and features an attached acetylene generator that was used to light it’s non-electric headlights.

In addition to vehicles, there is unexpected historic roadside infrastructure like a fully-restored early 1921 Sun Oil Gas Station with manual pumps, the original 1938 Reading Diner, invitingly glowing “OPEN” to draw you into it’s classic, charming interior, and “The Junkyard”.

Keeping up with the times, there are 4 Tesla and 2 regular electric vehicle chargers on-site for those that drive their EVs to the museum.
