Brookdale Lodge

A stream runs through the dining room of this historic and supposedly haunted hotel.

The Brookdale Lodge has been frequented by television crews for much of its modern history, always in an effort to document a number of spooks rumored to haunt the storied premises.  Best known for its visually striking Lodge Room, a babbling brook runs straight through the premises.  In its history, presidents dined aside it, and now (once it reopens), you can too!  After extensive damage from a fire and neglect from criminal mismanagement, Brookdale Lodge closed for several years, but is now actively on the path to reopening.  Don’t miss a visit to the Mermaid Room, a performance space decorated with striking mermaid mural, directly adjacent to a window that looks into the depths of the hotel pool.  Situated in the peaceful Brookdale region of Northern California, this is a scenic destination, whether you’re going to stay or just visit.  Bonus: Clinton Clifford, of Southern California’s Clifton’s Cafeteria fame, was directly inspired by the Brookdale Lodge when constructing Clifton’s Brookdale in downtown Los Angeles.  It’s the only Clifton’s location left, and while the foliage has been reduced drastically over the years, the influence is still abundantly clear.

Know Before You Go
