Budva Ballerina
A modern metal woman with an ancient fort for a backdrop
Budva, Montenegro is a small beach town with an old fortified town much like many of the towns you’ll find dotted up and down the Adriatic coast. There is an interesting story about Cadmus and the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite settling here after being cursed to leave Thebes. They named it Budva after their trusty Oxen that brought them here from Thebes. Amongst it’s many charms, Budva is also home to a unique statuette of a ballerina, sat on rocks off the cliff walk she makes for beautiful photos against the Adriatic. There isn’t much information about her, in fact there isn’t anything of note near by so as to why or when she was placed there is a mystery.
Know Before You Go
As you explore the old town of Budva and it’s many charms you’ll come to the small pebbly beach just outside the city’s fortified walls. Here you can catch a glimpse of the ballerina statuette around a cliff bend as you walk out across the promenade to really take in the beauty of Budva. There is a walk way on the upper end of that pebbly beach that leads to the ballerina and a more secluded beach. Here you can climb out and really see the sculpture with the backdrop of the Adriatic.
