The world’s largest private collection of Voudou objects is housed in a repurposed German water tower between the rails of Strasbourg’s train station. All of the 1060 objects in the Chateau Voudou have been used in real Voudou ceremonies and this unique collection includes ‘living’ fetishes that must be feed Gin and chicken blood. Not to be confused with Voodoo (North America) or Vudou (Haiti), all of the artifacts are Voudou; originating in Ghana, Benin, Togo and Nigeria. The four floors of the museum are dedicated to educating visitors on Voudou beliefs, its pantheon and rituals. Among the rich assortment of artifacts and winding staircases is a taxidermied lion, a wall of wildebeest skulls, Hindu carvings and an attic full of elaborate costumes. Voudou events are held often in the Tower and accompanying garden. Voudou priests tend the living fetishes and the staff is generous with helping visitors to understand the secret, unseen world of Voudou.
