The National Dinosaur Museum opened in Canberra’s northern suburbs in 1993. Along with an informative indoor exhibit, the museum features a series of large dinosaur sculptures outside its entrance. These life-sized, fiberglass models of velociraptors, triceratops, stegosauruses, and many more dot the courtyard in ever-changing configurations.

A recent addition to the garden is Stan, a larger-than-life, animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex. Stan is 8 meters tall and 20 meters long complete with a moving head and tail that may catch unsuspecting visitors by surprise.

Know Before You Go

There is an entrance fee for the museum building, but visitors can walk through much of the outdoor Dinosaur Garden before paying. Hours are from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. daily.
