Abandoned bunker hidden in the middle of West Wood. Used by the UK’s “secret army” in preparation for an invasion in WW2. It has been abandoned since the end of the war with the roof caved in and the shell and escape tunnel just remaining.
The Ditching Patrol of the Auxiliary Units used the bunker from 1941-1944. During the war there was storage for food, ammunition and explosives. With areas for bunk beds, a cooking stove and a chemical toilet.
