A real-life hidden Easter Egg in New Hampshire's capital city

New Hampshire is definitely home to some wild creatures. Bears, moose, reindeer, and an old man made of stone. But in 2022, the Granite State added another to its list of unusual fauna: Barrel-throwing gorillas.

Luckily for the citizens of New Hampshire, he is painted to the side of a wall. Unluckily for a certain plumber, he’s stolen his sweetheart.

In 2022, a new mural was unveiled in Concord, hidden behind an apartment building in the middle of the city. The mural itself is not easy to get to. Visitors have to snake behind a cafe, through a parking lot, and into a little back alley. The mural turns the apartment’s regular elevator shaft into a level from the classic arcade game Donkey Kong

The mural was painted in 2022 by artists Manny Ramirez, Cecilia Ulibarri, and Christian Ramirez. As the founders of Positive Street Art (a New Hampshire-based non-profit), the trio aims to uplift and delight communities through their fun, incentive murals.

The Donkey Kong mural has been embraced by the community and is a favorite insider reference for the people of Concord.

Know Before You Go

The mural is on the exterior of the building, but please don't annoy the residents of the apartment. You never know, they could throw a barrel at you.
