Ellenwood Park
Montague, Michigan
A park dedicated to the historical importance of western Michigan lumber industry, with a 48 foot tall weathervane.
The Ella Ellenwood was a lumber schooner built in 1869. It became part of the fleet of ships that brought the Michigan lumber that helped in rebuilding Chicago after the great fire of 1871, it would sink in 1901 less than 20 feet off the Wisconsin shore.
The weathervane was constructed by a local metalworks in Montague, and stands 48 feet tall at its peak. The actual schooner at the top is just over 14 feet long and 11 and a half feet tall, the arrow is just over 26 feet long. Seven pilings sunk 36 feet, hold it in place.

This park is at the intersection of Dowling St. and Water St. (Where bus. U.S.31 heads back to the primary freeway in the area.)
Great area just north of the Muskegon winter sports complex, (with a premier luge track.)
