Futura CDMX

A detailed model of Mexico City is the star attraction within this interactive exhibit inside an old theater.

The Interactive Center Futura CDMX was inaugurated in 2017 in what was the Vizcainas Theater. The main star of the space is a 2518-square foot (234-square-meter) model that represents the political delegation of Mexico City.

The space serves as a multimedia amphitheater that shows video projections of the model, in which people talk about the city in comparison with other great metropolises of the world. You can also see old maps that show has the sprawling city has grown over the years.

Though the model may be its main attraction, there’s much more to see within Futura CDMX. The whole place gives visitors a multisensory experience of the enormous city’s past, present, and future.

The second part of the museum shows the work Panorámica CDMX by Stephen Wiltshire, a man who flew over the city for 23 minutes and then was remarkably able to produce a monumental panorama painting solely from memory. The interactive section includes statistics, videos, and photographs of the city.

Update: Futura CDMX closed in February 2019.

Know Before You Go

The interactive center opens daily except for Mondays at 10 a.m. Unfortunately, the model can only be seen from the sides, so the details within the most emblematic areas can be hard to spot.
