About

At the entrance of Down River Golf Course in Everett, Pennsylvania, a colossal quarter with the distinguished profile of George Washington greets visitors. The quarter is part of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor’s Roadside Giants project, which features other colossal attractions such as the giant ice cream sundae atop the Igloo ice cream shop.

This oversized wonder, lovingly crafted by students at Bedford County Technical Center, stands 20 feet in diameter and weighs nearly a ton. The giant coin is a nod to the historical connections between George Washington and Bedford County.

Washington once kicked back at the Espy House on Pitt Street and was a regular at the Fraser Tavern, also known as the Graystone, during the French and Indian War.

Whether you’re a history buff or just someone looking for a unique pit stop, make your way to the Down River Golf Course to see George Washington’s gigantic quarter.
