Grand Turk Lighthouse, July 2024 BlueEyedGirl (Atlas Obscura User)
Built in 1852, this lighthouse is the most famous landmark on the island of Grand Turk. The wreck of the R.M.S Medina at North Reef, was the catalyst for the building of the lighthouse. Originally the lighthouse was designed to burn whale oil and had Argan reflector lamps that magnified light to 450 original intensity. It stands 60 feet tall and is 108 feet above sea level. You can also see wild donkeys through the island.
