This tombstone simply labeled “The Queen” is located in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri. Other than the mysterious moniker the only other thing written on the headstone is the date, “October 14, 1939.”

Although her identity was nearly forgotten, it was later revealed that “The Queen” was Elizabeth (Stewart) Hicks, whose family gave her the nickname. She lived and died in St. Louis, Missouri, but was buried alongside her relatives in Charleston, Missouri. She preferred that no one know her age, so only the date of her death was included on the stone.
