Lapa dos Brejões is a cave complex formed in Neoproterozoic limestone in the Una Group of caves (Salitre Formation) along the Jacaré River, on the northeast side of the Irecê sedimentary basin. It is located in a northern portion of the Chapada Diamantina, in the north central of Bahia, about 500 kilometers from the capital Salvador. According to the localities, Lapa dos Brejões was discovered in 1877, but the first discoveries in the cave were only published in 1938 by Father Camilo Torrendt.
