Hussong's Cantina – Las Vegas, Nevada - Atlas Obscura

The Margarita is perhaps one of the most famous cocktails out there. Consisting of only three simple ingredients; tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, served in a glass with a salted rim. The origin of the cocktail is disputed, but one of the claimants is a small cantina in Vegas.

When visiting the bar, you’ll find many signs including a trademark certificate that claim this place to be the location where the drink was invented. Allegedly as a result of a request for ‘something new’  by a girl called Margarita. The drink was great, and the rest was history.

Is it true? Very unlikely given that the bar opened in 2010, but it still makes for a nice story. However, the Original Hussong’s Cantina (link) in Mexico is an actual contender for the drinks point of origin.

Regardless, this Hussong’s is still a good place to try an original margarita, or one of the many variations that are on the menu.
