The property at the end of Hyattstown Mill Road was once home to a number of grist and saw mills that operated from the late 18th century through the early part of the 20th century, producing stone ground yellow and white cornmeal.

Little Bennett Creek was given to periods of inconsistent water flow and could not be relied upon to produce the power required to turn the water wheel, so the owners turned to steam powered machinery to operate the mill in 1905. The Midget Marvel dramatically increased productivity and improved cleanliness and healthiness. In fact, Hyattstown Mill produced “graham whole-wheat,” a healthy product featuring all parts of the wheat kernel - bran, germ, and endosperm - ground separately and then mixed back together.

A fire grievously damaged the structure in 1918, but the mill was rebuilt and restored to a functional state and continued to run until the 1930s. In 1965, the mill became part of Little Bennett Park and
