This plaque sits in front of the home of former boxing legend and champion, Jim Corbett. Corbett held the coveted heavyweight title from 1892, after knocking out John Sullivan in 21 rounds, until 1897 when he was defeated by Robert Fitzsimmions. Corbett is credited as being one of the first fighters to incorporate heavy defensive tactics into his fighting style. Corbett lived in the home from 1902 until his death in 1933.
