Kala's Cat Village
A colourful little collection of homes for needy cats in the neighbourhood.
Just north of the busy pedestrianised bar and restaurant streets in the heart of Zagreb’s old town is a sanctuary for aging and ill cats. Some kind souls have created brightly coloured homes, supplied with food and water for the cats to live in alongside the stairs that lead from Ul. Ivana Tkalčića to Upper Town.
It seems that those organising the temporary homes have also gone as far as to vaccinate and organise the treatment of several cats that live there.
To further spruce up the area, grafitti artists have rendered some cutesy and colourful cat murals on the walls behind the cat shelters. If you pass by you are likely to see a few of the sleepy felines resting in their houses and, in typical cat-fashion, wondering what the fuss is all about as tourists poke their heads in to this unique little moggy community.
