About

Eagle-eyed travelers driving along the otherwise ordinary Kennel Road in Ararat, Australia, will find a pleasant surprise perched on the street sign. There, placed neatly along a metal pole, are about half a dozen colorful kennels and plastic pups waiting to greet passersby.

Each brightly painted little kennel stands in stark contrast to the pole lying beneath it. The dogs are tough to spot unless you know to look for them. Pull over and take a closer look, and you’ll see each miniature animal looks as happy to see you as a real dog would be while greeting its owner—just minus the barking.

The artwork is a quirky, charming nod to the street’s name. The mystery person behind the installation has kept the array of kennels and their dogs in top shape over the years. Their work gives visitors a sweet, cheerful welcome to the neighborhood.
