It a courtyard that has been transformed into an alternative art space. Set in a small space between homes in Kaunas, The Courtyard Gallery focuses on the issue of location and asks: Where do we live? What do we call home? Is home a place, where the key clicks in the door lock? Is the notion of home a wider one, including relationship and connections between people?
There Courtyard Gallery is the initiative of the artist Vytenis Jakas. It is situated near Jewish synagogue, and during the interwar period, a large number of Jewish families lived here. Jakas decided to get acquainted with his neighbours and find out their stories. He translated these stories into art on the walls.
