Lan Hin Taek translated means “Area of broken stone”. In Petchabun province at 1800 metres above sea level, close to the Laotian border, this rocky mountaintop was shaped by water erosion. It is in an area in which the Thai government fought a war with Communist insurgents. It is also an area where you find a Lao minority and there are still some old Patet Lao guerillas and Thai vets that will guide you on treks around the area. The entrance fee for foreigners is steep (THB 500!) but if you are a resident and you have any form of local ID, sometime you can bargain this price down.
