These beautiful volcanic hot springs near Quetzaltenango were nearly destroyed by recent hurricanes Mitch and Stan, in 1998 and 2005 respectively, and again in 2010 by Tropical Storm Agatha. Originally discovered in 1902, the cascading baths have been recently restored.
Las Fuentes Georginas were named for the wife of dictator Jorge Ubico, a frequent patron of the site. The area also serves as the entrance to the municipal forest reserve with trails through the rain forest and access to the volcano at Zuníl.
There is a restaurant located at the site, and towels are available for rent.
