Last of the Summer Wine was the longest running situation comedy show in the UK (1973-2010) and had a worldwide following. The series followed the story of a group of “senior” gentleman who get caught up in escapades that indicate that they had never really grown up.
The three most iconic locations are all conveniently located within walking distance in the centre of the small, West Yorkshire town of Holmfirth. These are the famous Sid’s Cafe (note the British English spelling without the accent), Compo’s home and Nora Batty’s house , with its iconic set of steps up to the front door. The latter house is even available as a vacation let. Right next to Compo’s front door is the entrance to the Last of the Summer Wine exhibition, featuring a mock up of the interior of Compo’s home.
In Sid’s Cafe you can pick up a free tourist map to help you find the other nearby locations. There is also a 45 minute tour around other locations (on a vintage bus) available from outside the establishment.
Know Before You Go
Be aware that the tours sometimes have an early finish (about 2pm) so arrive early if that is your aim.
