About
For almost 50 years, this cultural museum located within a church has presented visitors with opportunities to learn about the history, culture, and people of Latvia.
Founded in 1978 by the Latvian Institute of the American Latvian Association, the museum underwent an extensive renovation in December 2022 to offer a fresh interpretive approach to the cultural and historical exhibits and artifacts on display.
The museum features several exhibits on a broad range of subjects— videos that depict 18th-century life in Riga, Latvian ancestry, the Singing Revolution and the path to freedom as a sovereign nation, the terror of Soviet occupation during World War II, and Latvia's role as an emerging democracy.
There are also a wealth of Latvian cultural artifacts, including currency, literature, and beautiful handwoven textiles.
