Sitting 1.5 miles north of the White House, Meridian Hill Park is one of the most unique parks in the National Park System. The 12-acre park is home to 4 memorials and statues including one to our 15th president James Buchanan and the only female equestrian statue in Washington, D.C.

The land for the park was purchased in 1910 and the park wasn’t finally completed until 1936 for a cost of over $1.5 million. Listed on both the National Registrar of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark, Meridian Hill was designed as a formal garden in the tradition of French and Italian aristocracy.
