Mirador Putana's Homer Simpson mountain

A series of volcanos that looks suspiciously like a lazy Homer Simpson

Many people go to San Pedro de Atecama to see the beauties of Chile. Culture, nature, science, wildlife and exploration, its all possible here. One thing that people may not expect however, is a mountain chain that is colloquially named after a famous sitcom protagonist.

There is a large group of volcanos near the Bolivian border of Chile. Some are still active, while most are dormant, all are relatively young tough. Because of this, the mountain range has a funky shape when compared to most older ranges. This makes the place a popular hiking ground and provides a beautiful view to all those around.

From one specific location, the range gets an interesting shape though. The mountains form into what is seen by many as a sleeping Homer Simpson. With the Curiquinca being his head. The Cerro Colorado his pillow and the Vulcão Putana his belly.

It is an interesting trick of the eye that offers something refreshingly different to most people on the tours.
