Located on the tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, about two hours north of Reykjavik, the village of Hellissandur has gained a reputation as the street art capital of Iceland. In the summer of 2019, a team of international artists including Camilo Arias, Ban Pesk, and Luis Rincon transformed an abandoned warehouse and several unadorned buildings into 30 large works of art. Most of the murals are in the vicinity of the abandoned warehouse, but a walk around town will reveal several more.
Know Before You Go
Hellissandur is located just outside the northern entrance of the Snæfellsjökull National Park. The warehouse that contains most of the murals is on the northern end of the town beside to the shore and can be found on Google Maps as "Murals of Hellissandur". There isn't a parking lot near the warehouse, but there are plenty of parking spaces scattered around the town. All of the murals that aren't on the warehouse are within walking distance.
