This small, but charming museum houses pre-Columbian art that was collected by Zapotec painter Rufino Tamayo and donated to his home state of Oaxaca. The diverse collection is presented less as archeological relics, but rather as works of art.

A plaque inside the museum reads, “It is the first time that a Mexican museum exhibits relics of Indian past in terms of aesthetic phenomena, in terms of works of art.”
