About

Margaret Hamilton played the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. She also had parts in Universal’s The Invisible Woman (1940), William Castle’s 13 Ghosts (1960), the television movie Ghostbreakers (1967), and the Kolchak film, The Night Strangler (1973). She was even a member of the Addams Family, playing Morticia’s mother Granny Hester Frump in a few of the episodes of that television show.

Hamilton was born in Ohio, and went to school at Wheelock College in Boston, MA, to become a teacher before ending us as an actress.

After living in a few different states across the country, Hamilton eventually settled at a retirement community called Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT, where she passed away only a few months later on May 16, 1985, at the age of 82. Her ashes were scattered in New York.
