Constructed in 1912, this handsome Mission Revival architecture building was known as the “The Grand.” For its first four years, it served as a hotel and entertainment venue.

In 1916, Benzie County began leasing the facility as its county courthouse. The county continued to use the building until a newly constructed—much less architecturally impressive —courthouse was completed in 1976.

Since then, the historic hillside former courthouse has been used for a variety of purposes including for retail, dining, and residential condominiums. Today, the old county courthouse remains an impressive and iconic structure in the heart of Beulah, Michigan.

The old Benzie County Courthouse is listed on both on the state and national registers of historic places.
