This roof garden was constructed on the site of the former rooftop bus station just outside the Amsterdam Sloterdijk railway station.

The bus station was moved to ground level to the rear of the station. The roof garden features a, state of the art, means of maintaining a wide range of plants with minimal addition of irrigation water by storing rainwater in a chamber below the root zone and transmitting the water back up to the plants with an energy free capillary irrigation system. At the same time the volume of rainwater discharged into local drains and surface waters is much reduced, leading to a reduction in the frequency of flooding.

This has formed a remarkable oasis of green in the Orlyplein area of Amsterdam. The installation  has produced a remarkable change in the social characteristics of the area and since its installation has shown a measurable reduction in street crime. A bar/cafe built from shipping containers is another  feature.
