Paranapiacaba Cemetery – Santo André, Brazil - Atlas Obscura

Popularly known as the Paranapiacaba Cemetery, it is located on Paranapiacaba Road, Paranapiacaba District in Santo André. The cemetery was founded on July 25, 1890, in an area of approximately 20,000 m², with 600 perpetual concession jars built. This cemetery was built by the British, who at the time built and worked on the railroad. At that time there was a very strong epidemic that led to the death of hundreds of these workers, who, being far from their homes, were buried there. It was listed as a historical patrimony by the Municipality, since its deposits are mostly very old buildings dating from that time.
