Feejee Mermaids, Jackalopes, Shrunken Heads, Victorian Toys, and thousands more artifacts are on display at Pexcho’s American Dime Museum.

Housed in buildings that were once a tailor’s office and an open-air fish market in 1880’s Augusta, Georgia you will find a love-letter to the Barnum-inspired dime museums of old. It is a museum, a coffee house, a theater space, an art gallery but it is so much more; it is American history through the eyes of the unsung working class men and women who built it.

Born from the ashes of Dick Horne’s Dime Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, Pexcho’s is the creation of owner Peter Excho. It had bounced from California to Louisiana by appointment only before finding its current (and hopefully permanent) home in Augusta. This well-traveled collection is a carnival sideshow tent parked after what seems like a hundred year voyage across the world, showcasing bizarre machinations of animal parts, beautiful jewelry made from human hair, grotesque jars of animal oddities, and a vial of the most famous farts you could ever hope to see (but sadly, not smell).

During your tour Excho will introduce you to a bevy of items, each with a story of their own all while allowing you to take as many photos and video as you wish. Inside you will find amazing taxidermy (both modern and vintage), shrunken heads, Victorian era souvenirs and elixirs, and Excho’s prized collection of Pre-Columbian Butt Whistles.
