The country of Ireland is often referred to as “The Island of Saints and Scholars”. It is estimated that the figure reaches somewhere upwards of 400. These include healers, holy people, mystics, as well as a number of Christians. It shouldn’t be surprising, that a country that is so devout, would welcome the opportunity to embrace a modern day saint with roots in it’s deeply held religious traditions.

In June 2017, the Cathedral of Sligo held a devotional ceremony for the interment of a monstrance. A highly religious vessel which contained a piece of muslin cloth with a drop of Mother Teresa’s blood. It was determined that this was a ‘first-class’ relic, as it contained the remnant of a recently beautified saint. This artifact is protected by the Knights of St Columbanus, a religious organization that is responsible for and promotion of the Catholic faith.
