When you think of Fried Chicken, you think of Colonel Harland Sanders, and his journey to world poultry domination began in the small eastern Kentucky town of Corbin. Nestled along state Highway 25, the business started out in 1930 as a service station, where Sanders served meals for travelers at his own dining table out back.  By 1937, his food was so popular that he built the Sanders Café, which seated 142 people.  It was here that the Colonel developed his still “secret recipe” and his special method of pressure cooking.  The cafe remained in regular franchise operation until 1988, when it was renovated and reopened in 1990 as a museum with a modern KFC kitchen adjacent to the café.  While at the museum, visitors can tour the office of Harland Sanders, see the kitchen where Sanders developed the KFC secret formula, and view KFC memorabilia, and of course, eat some “finger lickin’ good” chicken.

Know Before You Go

The restaurant is a regular KFC inside  and  the menu is the same as any of the chain, but you eat in an replica of the original cafe and pose with the Colonel.
