A unique signpost directing you to some places a little farther afield than you might expect.

This rather unique signpost offers directions to places not exactly in the local vicinity.

A monument to explorer Captain James Cook, who has links with all the locations the signpost points towards, this direction finder is overlooked when compared with the well known statue of Captain Cook which is located around a two minute walk away. However, this signpost has a charm and an educational purpose as it shows the variety of locations Captain Cook visited in his illustrious career alongside the distance, in nautical miles around Cape Horn, and is a subtle and often unseen tribute to his achievements. An inspired and imaginitive way to honour a hero of the town that expresses so much more than the statue could by showing, in a way familiar to us all, the lengths Captain Cook travelled to discover the unknown.

If you are hoping for local directions perhaps look elsewhere, but if you happen to need to know which direction to head towards to reach places as far and wide as the South Sandwich Isle, Alaska, Tonga, Botany Bay or even New Zealand from England’s East Coast then this is the signpost you’ve been looking for.

As well as a tribute to Captain Cook’s acheivements, this signpost is a little treat to explorers everywhere, a unique and interesting item because most people walk right past this signpost believing it to be nothing more than an ordinary street signpost when actually it points to places far and wide to encourage the explorer within us all to follow in the footsteps of Captain Cook and see these distant wonders. Working as both a memorial to a legendary explorer and simultaneously as an inspirational piece to inspire new explorers that happen to realise this isn’t any ordinary signpost, this is a special and imaginative piece that is subtle and yet perhaps a signpost is the perfect tribute to a giant of exploration. After all every journey needs directions.
