Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum
Collection of scores of race cars from the 1900s to recent lovingly maintained and displayed.
If you have any interest in cars, whether racers or not, this place will fascinate. It showcases over 75 historic road racing cars—everything from early open-wheel racers to the latest carbon-fiber-bodied competitors from Le Mans.
Marques you know sit among ones you may never have encountered. Domestic marvels such as Auburn and Duesenberg share space with the cream of European and British design. There is a 1909 American Underslung Traveler with wheels almost three feet tall and some Alfa Romeos that will make your throttle foot itch.
Most of the cars are in running condition. On some Saturdays (Demo Days), a car from the collection is driven around the parking lot for exercise and to show it off. There is a YouTube video of Jay Leno taking off his shoes to fit his feet into a Squire with a pre-selector transmission, one of just seven made.
If you lusted after a particular car, mine was the Austin Healey 3000, in earlier years, you are likely to find it or a very close relative lurking in the halls, including some American muscle cars. The staff are knowledgeable and chatty, so you can learn a lot with a few well-directed questions, and they will enjoy your reminiscences about cars and driving.
