Snoopy the World Traveller
This statue of Snoopy on vacation is just outside the kids area at Minneapolis Saint Paul International was one of a series of 101 Snoopy statues created in 2000.
This is one of numerous fantastic statues featuring Snoopy which can be found in the Twin Cities area to celebrate the fact that Charles Schultz was a long term resident of the city of Saint Paul. Most were part of the 101 statue tribute of 2000, just after Schlutz death (the first ever “Peanuts on Parade” event). All the Snoopy statues had the same basic pose, arms outstretched and ears standing upright.
The memorial plaque at the airport claims Shultz is a native of Saint Paul but , in fact, he was born in nearby Minneapolis.
This whimsical and colourful fibreglass statue has a suitcase in one hand and a model aircraft in the other. He also has a camera hung around his kneck. This evocative statue is near gate C12 at terminal 1 of the MSP airport, appropriately right next to the kids play area. For Peanuts fans it provides a great lift to the spirits during a long wait for a flight.
The sculptor was Keith Krone and in 2000 the statue was sponsored by the Mackay Envelope Corporation but was later sold to the Carlson Companies who donated it to the airport.
Know Before You Go
There is another excellent Snoopy statue at MSP from the series created in 2000. It is called The North Star Flying Ace and is in the main concourse at terminal 1.
