South Street Cinema

A small storefront screening room brings classic films, cult and camp favorites that lures audiences away from watching movies on their phone and back to shared joy of cinema.

Started as a pop-up promotion, the South Street Cinema has found an audience and  home on Philadelphia’s boulevard of misfit toys. Curated and fan inspired, the 40-seat screening room, located in a former shoe store, certainly won’t be mistaken for the cineplex, but the movie offerings are as eclectic as the people found on South Street.  80’s nostalgia on Fridays, Saturday night horror,  family matinees, and silent and gold-era classics on Sundays, remind patrons that movies are a communal experience and best when shared.  Admission is by suggested donation, but no one is ever turned away and comes with complimentary popcorn.

Sadly closed in May 2019, hoping to find a new home in 2020.

Know Before You Go

Located across the street from the legendary Theater of the Living Arts, (TLA) and near to all the cheesesteaks you could ever want. Street parking is plentiful, but pay attention to signage and pay the meter.
