292 Hanover Street has been the gathering spot for Boston residents - mostly men - for decades.

It began with its use as a speakeasy in the 1920s. But even after liquor became legal, the city’s male residents met underground to smoke, gamble, and get away from their wives. 

Now it is a cigar bar and a kind of museum, displaying cigar-related antiques in kitschy splendor: you’ll find a “guillotine” cigar cutter that’s nearly two centuries old, a collection of ancient cigar labels, and antique humidors from around the world.

Although women are allowed, the long cigar (which actually releases ‘smoke’) protruding from the building can’t help but remind visitors that the club was men only for decades.
