About

Best known for his 1958 novel The Once and Future King, T. H. White is considered one of the greatest Arthurian authors of modern literature. A British writer born in Bombay, White settled in Alderney in 1946 and lived there for the rest of his life, but his grave can be found in Athens, Greece.

On January 17, 1964, White died of heart failure aboard a ship in Piraeus, while en route to Alderney on his way back from a lecture tour in the United States. He is buried in the First Cemetery of Athens, among such illustrious Greek figures as Heinrich Schliemann and Melina Mercouri.

Notably,  a sword symbol is engraved on White's grave representing the mythical Excalibur, a sweet tribute to the Arthurian literary legend.
