Standing proud and stately along a lush stretch of Broad Street, is a nicely kept Colonial Revival-style  home occupying an expansive lot that stands out among surrounding properties.

Built in 1870 on the 95-acre farm of John Green, the property was purchased in 1890 by Yale Rice, son of Elihu Rice, the founder of Yale University.

The house was owned by Dr. Milton Eisenhower (younger brother of Dwight D. Eisenhower) and his wife Helen between 1938-1943. Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower stayed in the home in the weeks following Pearl Harbor, over a decade before Eisenhower would become the 34th President of the United States. They spent New Year’s Eve 1941 at Tallwood.

Eisenhower was said to have quipped that he never saw Falls Church during the day due to his incredibly long working hours in D.C.
