Theodor Seuss Geisel, more popularly known as Dr. Seuss, is known around the world for his classic children’s books filled with whimsical tales and illustrations. While longtime fans are familiar with his popular books, most have not seen his other artwork.

The Art of Dr. Seuss Gallery seeks to change that by introducing the public to Geisel’s other artistic works. Propelled by the efforts of Geisel’s wife’s Audrey, this collection aims to show the private side of the legendary figure.

Artwork inside the petit gallery includes artistic iterations of the cat from The Cat in the Hat and dreamy surrealist paintings that only Dr. Seuss could make. A crowd favorite are the animal sculptures from the “Seuss System of Unorthodox Taxidermy,” which feature the mounted heads of some of Seuss’ iconic creatures. Many of them were inspired by animals that Geisel came in contact with through his father’s job as a curator at the Forest Park Zoo in Springfield, Massachusetts.
