Solomon Barrott was born in 1763 in Easton, Maryland. He was one of the youngest soldiers to serve during the Revolutionary War, having enlisted in 1779, and became known as “The Little Drummer Boy.”

He served as a fifer and drummer in numerous battles, including the Battle of Gates Defeat, Camden (Battle of Camden, Aug. 15-16, 1780), Battle of Cowpens (January 17, 1781), and Guilford Court House (March 15, 1781).

In spite of appearing in multiple battles at a very early age, he lived to the ripe old age of 88, and was the last surviving Continental soldier of the Maryland line in the American Revolution when he died.

Barrott returned to Easton after the war and married Susan Pritchett on March 25, 1834. He worked as an estate auctioneer and laborer, and had three sons: Tristam, Solomon, and Edward.

Barrott died on December 6, 1851. His tombstone stands between two small trees in Spring Hill Cemetery, and nearly 250 years after his military service, he is regarded as a local hero in his home town of Easton, Maryland.
