The Medical Library at the Scuola Grande of St Mark's in Venice

The Scuola Grande of San Marco was one of Venice’s religious confraternities; the building is part of Venice’s city hospital (Ospedale Civile).

The current building dates from the 15th century and has an magnificent facade on the Campo Santa Giovanni e Paolo. Upstairs, there is an impressive hall (Sala Capitolare) with an exquisite gilded ceiling and a fascinating (and often frightening) collection of historical medical equipment.
