This massive woven willow sculpture  was created in 2020 by local willow artist Trevor Leat and  for a few years it toured around various  events in Scotland before returning  to it’s intended final  position on the green next to the main parking lot in Castle  Douglas. However in 2023, despite the structure weighing over a tonne it was blown over during Storm Debi. It is now back in position and the intention is to leave the structure  in place until  it naturally  deteriorates.

The bull is in   two colours of willow so as to represent the belted markings of the Belted Galloway  breed which is local to the area although with age the difference in colour is becoming les distinct. This breed has been recognised  as a seperate  breed to the Black Galloway since 1921.

Hopefully  the sculpture will be around  for a few years and perhaps  will be replaced when it needs to be as it is a popular  tourist attraction  in Castle  Douglas. The name of the bull is Kelton and he stands about 8ft at the shoulder.
