Tulum has around 60 structures that can be seen above ground. This apparently is about a tenth of the estimated size of the city. Gary Owens
Tulum is the site of a Pre-Columbian Mayan city, one of the few walled coastal cities in the Mayan civilization and among the best preserved. It is also among the last cities built - and abandoned - by the Maya. Although it has become a popular tourist site (due in part to cruise ship business from Cozumel and resort crowds in Cozumel), it remains relatively unknown as compared to, e.g., Chichen Itza or Tikal.
