The discotheque Universum in Stuttgart is a well-known party location for lovers of independent and alternative music. It’s also home to a unique and unusual artifact. Only a few visitors ever spot the out-of-place glass case amidst the crowd, inside, a taxidermied rabbit. The rabbit once belonged to a patron who frequented the club and was good friends with the owner.
After the rabbit died, she wanted something to better remember her furry friend by instead of a burial site. Since the discotheque Universum was one of her loves, she wanted a memorial for her deceased pet constructed inside. The owner agreed and created an illuminable glass box for the rabbit to be displayed. The memorial got the name Unihase from a combination of the club’s name and the German word for hare.
Know Before You Go
The memorial can be only seen when the discotheque is open. Opening times can be found on the club's website. There is no dress code at the entrance, however, access can be impossible when the discotheque is too crowded.
Update: the discotheque has closed permanently. The current whereabouts of the memorial is unknown.
