‘Waiting Adam’
Brno-střed, Czechia
The smallest statue in Brno keeps you company as you wait for your friend under the clock on Česká Street.
Waiting Adam. Fred Cherrygarden (Atlas Obscura User)
The clock on Česká Street is a fairly popular meet-up spot in Brno, and if you wait for your friend here, there’s someone to keep you company even if you don’t see him. And he happens to be the smallest public statue in the city, too.
Created by sculptor Václav Sigurson Kostohryz, the 20-centimeter-tall statue sits on a metal bar, unnoticed by most. It was added to the clock when it was repaired by clockmaker Jan Kopřiva, and Kostohryz paid out of his own pocket for the expenses, making it using the lost wax method. He then offered it to the clock’s owner, the Brno diocese of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, for free.
