The Warwick Castle is a medieval castle built originally by William the Conqueror in 1068. The original wooden motte-and-bailey castle was rebuilt in stone in the 12th century. During the Hundred Years War, the facade opposite the town was refortified, resulting in one of the most recognisable examples of 14th century military architecture. It was used as a stronghold until the early 17th century, when it was granted to Sir Fulke Greville by James I in 1604. Greville converted it to a country house and it was owned by the Greville family, who became earls of Warwick in 1759, until 1978 when it was bought by the Tussauds Group.

Personal review: We visit the castle in February, including the dungeon (its only 2 £ more). Because it is off the season, there is not too much to do or to see, still it was a nice day. There is some archery demonstration and the trebuchet. It takes about 3-4 hours to visit the whole place. More if there is activities running up. We didn’t went for a guided tour, and to be honest, probably it is not necessary. It is not a big castle and the main activities take place outside. So in resume, it is a great place to go on summer, when there is activities. (You can check the daily activities and timetables in the webpage).
